Beaches
There
are several beaches in Matinhos. The names varie: Corais (Corals),
Jussara, Gaivotas (Seagulls), Iracema, Guacyara, Currais,
Ipacaraí, Betaras, Solimar, Marajó, Saint Etiene, Florida,
Riviera I and II, Flamingo besides Matinhos itself. The
latter is the main beach located at the border of the city,
with agitated and shallow waters. Facing the sea there is a
belvedere built upon a rocky formation from where the waves
can be seen beating against the rocks with the city below
and the Northern beaches all around.
Caiobá Beach is Matinhos' largest beach and its main
attractions are:

Brava Beach (Praia Brava) - located in a bay with shallow
waters and a little agitated and surrounded by a garden and
some vegetation. On one of its extremities is the Ox Hill
(Morro do Boi) and in the other the Matinhos Rock (Pedra de
Matinhos). The Brava Beach is place of surf practice and
eventual championships. It is 3.5 thousand meters long and
50 wide. At evening it is the place to go to enjoy the place
and meet people.
- Mansa Beach (Praia Mansa) - this calm and a little deep
beach is located across the city on a small bay facing the
Guaratuba beach (see below). The beach is urbanized and at
evening less noisy than the Brava Beach. It is 1,5 thousand
meters long. The Mansa Beach is connected to the Lighthouse
Little Beach (Prainha do Farol) and to the Turtles' Island
(Ilha das Tartarugas).

Main Attractions
Saint Peter Main Church (Igreja Matriz de São Pedro)
Located
in the very downtown this church is of simple
architectural lines. Given to the crescent number of
churchgoers a new church had to be built near the old
one. The saint protector is Saint Peter, the patron of
fishermen commemorated the 29th of June. Location: Rua
Albano Muller 196.
Little Church of Saint Peter (Igrejinha de São Pedro)
Built
between 1938 and 1944, this little church is consecrated
to Saint Peter and was the only church in town. Today it
is officially considered a historical building. Near the
end of 2001 the church went through restoration works in
a united action of the parish, the city administration
and the community becoming a catholic religious temple
again. Location: Rua Roque Vernalha in downtown.
Escalvado Hill (Morro do Escalvado)
Also
known as the Hill of the Cross (Morro da Cruz) this 262-meter-high
hill has abundant native vegetation. From the top, where
visitors can arrive walking up along special trails open
in the forest, a panoramic view of all the beaches below
can be seen. The road to climb the hill - open 365 days
a year - starts at the Fountain Street (Rua da Fonte).
Ox Hill (Morro do Boi)
With
approximately 160 meters of height this hill is crossed
by a pleasant trail in the middle of the woods to get to
the Beautiful Beach (Praia Bela) also called Love Beach
(Praia dos Amores), from where the sea is open and the
fishing is good.
Turtles' Island (Ilha das Tartarugas)
Also known as Lighthouse Island (Ilha do Farol) Love
Beach is linked to the continent by an isthmus of stones
that can be visited at low tide. The place is covered by
exuberant vegetation. Access by the Beautiful Beach
(Ilha Bela).
Jaguar River Forest Park (Parque Florestal Rio da Onça)
Created
on June 04, 1981, with the aim of protecting the local
flora and fauna. The Park has 1,660 hectares with a
portal, interpretative trails, suspension bridges,
visitors' center and a belvedere. The place is a
sanctuary of many plants and wild animals.
Águas Claras Park (Parque Águas Claras)
PThis
242-thousand-square-meter amusement park was inaugurated
in April 1994. It has many attractions for children and
adults such as water slippery, swimming pools, motorized
buoys, boats, kayaks, a little train, sport courts, game
hall, shops, five lakes, snack bar and other facilities.
An events' center and an inn complete the ensemble.
